Emergency Preparedness

Ready to Respond
Marathon Oil maintains plans to protect communities in the event of natural disasters, security incidents, operational disruptions and other events.

We equip our operations to provide a robust response in emergency situations. We maintain detailed business continuity plans designed to protect our personnel, facilities, neighbors and the environment and continue critical business functions during sustained events. The Emergency Preparedness and Community Awareness element of our Responsible Operations Management System (ROMS) provides tailored response plans to local operating conditions.

With the ongoing challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to adapt and adjust our operations based on the evolving CDC guidelines to promote the utmost safety for our workforce and our contractors. As we moved into our new Houston office in 2021, we took the same precautions to implement the recommended controls to support a safe transition. Although our office is open-concept, we implemented a state-of-the-art ventilation system to help prevent transmission and increase the safety of the building.

Marathon Oil’s capabilities include:

  • Response teams at the local, regional and corporate levels, including the Centralized Emergency Response Team (CERT) and executive-level crisis management team.
  • Annual training, drills and exercises for all levels of response teams, along with government agencies and key stakeholders.
  • A network of responders and consultants that regularly interfaces with local and regional team members.

Our emergency preparedness strategies include Emergency Action Plans designed for office use, including security threats; Emergency Response Plans designed for spills, fires and water releases; and a 24-hour call center connected from Houston to all of our business offices and emergency response teams. Our Corporate Emergency Response Process, a part of ROMS, is consistent with standard industry incident response protocols and is reviewed and updated on a prescribed frequency.
